Glenbard East High School Theatre program proudly presents A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, Directed by Josh Rubin, and Tech Directed by Andy Bero. 13-year-old Conor has had the same dream every night, ever since his mother first fell ill with cancer. But tonight, when he wakes, there’s a monster at his window, and it wants something from Conor. It wants the truth. Conor’s dream life and the real world begin to bleed into one another until he must face his monsters and the reality of his mother’s illness in a story of love, loss, and hope. The performances will be from April 18-20, 2023 at 7:00pm.

The play "A Monster Calls" is rated PG due to its exploration of complex and mature themes, including the impact of cancer on a family. This rating reflects the play’s treatment of subjects that may require parental guidance for younger audiences. The narrative delves into emotional and psychological challenges faced by the characters, particularly focusing on how they cope with illness and loss. While the play is crafted to be accessible and potentially educational for a wide audience, including younger viewers, its candid discussion of such sensitive topics necessitates consideration by parents or guardians to determine its appropriateness for their children. This approach ensures that the play's powerful messages about human experiences and resilience are conveyed in a manner that respects the maturity level of the audience.
